US Navy Best Practice Recommendation

Our Extend-A-LifeTM Ethylene Filters and Produce SaverTM Sachets are used on US Navy ships of all types. These "GREEN TECHNOLOGY" filters are designed to effectively absorb the ethylene gas that causes most fresh fruits and vegetables (FFV) to ripen and spoil. By absorbing the ethylene gas, our products prolong the shelf life of most FFV by 2-3 weeks, and in some cases, up to 4 weeks longer than normal.

Results and Benefits

  • Lengthens FFV Shelf-Life by 3-4 weeks
  • Reduces Surveys of FFV
  • Enhances Quality of Life
  • Boosts Morale of Sailors & Marines
  • Easy to Use- Simply Hang In The Overhead of The Cold Storage Space
  • Active Ingredient of The filter Is Safe to Handle; Encased In A Metal Frame
  • Landfill Disposable When Expended

Proven Technology

Results of a test aboard USS Roosevelt (CVN-71) in 1999, showed a 9% improvement in shelf life for oranges, 10% for cucumbers, 88% for lettuce and celery, and 245% for tomatoes. Research conducted over a more than thirty year period by the Natick research facility has resulted in a series of recommendations for the use of ethylene filters aboard Navy ships. Originally reported by Natick Research Center in 1987, and updated with laboratory studies in 1989, the conclusions were identical: Ethylene filters are the most effective and economical means of preserving Fruits and Vegetables aboard US Navy ships.
